In the process of post-industrialization of economic development, information begins to play an increasingly important role in the process of reproduction (Drucker, 1999). The formation of the concept of the "Knowledge Economy" relates to this, since the understanding of this category is inextricably linked with the need to adapt the production processes in the economy to the new post-industrial era of information with a large number of organizations in the field of knowledge-intensive industries (Muller, 2001). Also, a distinctive feature of the post-industrial knowledge economy is those industries where no material products are produced, only services and knowledge (Woods and Cortada, 2013). The paper examines the category of "Knowledge Economy" and analyzes the current state of the development of the knowledge economy in the Russian Federation. The results and conclusions obtained in the work can be applied to catalyze the development of the knowledge economy in Russia.
