The role of waqf (endowment) institutions in promoting social welfare and charitable activities within the Muslim community is well-established and critical. These institutions are intended to provide long-term support for various socio-economic causes, ranging from education and healthcare to poverty alleviation. However, despite their potential, many waqf institutions face significant challenges related to governance, transparency, and accountability. The lack of clear reporting standards and robust governance frameworks often hinders their effectiveness, resulting in diminished public trust and support. This situation calls for a comprehensive examination of waqf reporting frameworks and governance practices to identify gaps and propose solutions that could enhance the overall management and operational efficiency of these institutions. In Malaysia, where waqf plays a vital role in community development, the need for a well-defined reporting framework is imperative. The Perbadanan Wakaf Selangor (PWS) serves as a case study to explore the current practices and challenges faced by waqf institutions. This research aims to investigate how structured reporting frameworks can improve governance practices, thereby fostering greater transparency, accountability, and trust among stakeholders. By engaging in qualitative analysis through semi-structured interviews with practitioners in the field, this study seeks to shed light on the perceptions of those who manage waqf institutions and the systemic issues that impede their efficacy.
