The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted family dynamics, parenting practices, and overall family well-being. This scoping review systematically examines the existing literature to identify key themes, challenges, and coping strategies that have emerged during this period. A comprehensive search across multiple academic databases for studies published between January 2020 and March 2024 resulted in the inclusion of 150 relevant articles, analyzed following PRISMA guidelines. The findings reveal notable changes in parenting behaviors, such as increased parental involvement in children's education and daily activities due to remote learning and school closures. These changes have been accompanied by increased parental stress, role strain, and challenges in maintaining work-life balance. Family mental health has also been adversely affected, with rising reports of anxiety, depression, and stress among parents and children, driven by economic uncertainties, health concerns, and social isolation. Families have adopted various coping strategies, including enhanced communication, virtual social support, and engaging in joint activities to strengthen family bonds. This review provides valuable insights for policymakers, educators, and mental health professionals to develop targeted interventions supporting families during and after the pandemic. It emphasizes the importance of fostering resilience and providing resources to mitigate the pandemic's negative impacts on family dynamics and mental health. Additionally, it identifies gaps in the literature and suggests future research directions to explore the long-term effects of the pandemic on family systems and develop evidence-based strategies for supporting family well-being in future crises.
