ABSTRACT

Abstract - This study aims to describe the geometric thinking process of students in constructing the formula for the area of Parallelogram in terms of learning style. This type of research is an explorative descriptive research with qualitative approach. The research subjects were students of grade VII junior high school who were selected with several considerations, among others: level of geometric thinking, understanding of flat area, and type of learning style. The subject selection technique was done by purposive random sampling method. The research instruments included Van Hiele Geometry Test to determine students' geometry thinking level, Flat area understanding test to measure students' understanding of flat area, and VARK questionnaire to determine students' learning style type. The subjects selected were two students, each with a kinesthetic learning style and a read/write learning style with the criteria of being at level 1 of geometry thinking, having an equal understanding of the concept of flat area, and the same gender. The data collection technique was carried out by giving the task of constructing the formula for the area of a Parallelogram and continued with an interview based on the task results. The data analysis technique was carried out in three stages of qualitative data analysis including data condensation, data presentation, and conclusion drawing or verification.
